Cubist
Cubist (2019) by photographer Yudi Ela Echevarria. Yudi is a visual artist living and working in New York and Los Angeles. Her practice is rooted in photography and includes still life, portraiture, sculpture, and video. Being raised by immigrant parents in a working class suburb of southern California, largely shaped her curiosity Informed by popular culture from in the 60’s to the underground rave scene in the 90’s and aesthetics seen in films like Roman Polanski’s Rosemary's Baby and Jean Luc Goddard’s A Woman Is a Woman. This worldly curiosity led to the expansion of her film and art history knowledge, ultimately inspiring an idiosyncratic sensibility to her imagery. Her work is centered on a desire to connect with her subjects through her creative intuition. Her work has been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and has been commissioned by Muji, Vince, Pyer Moss and Karl Lagerfeld.
