CLAM LAB is the work of Clair Catillaz (she/her) b.1984. Clair began working with clay at the age of 12, established an independent studio in Brooklyn in 2009, and is now based in Catskill, NY. Using the vessel as a springboard, her work is an ongoing series of one of a kind pieces characterized by strong silhouettes and rooted in the vocabulary of functional objects. She utilizes a hybrid of wheel thrown and hand built methods, with a focus on glaze development and sculptural detail. Most pieces are high fired stoneware.
