Hertha Bengtsson (1917-1993) was a Swedish ceramic and glass artist. Her breakthrough as a designer came in 1951 with Blå Eld for Rörstrand. She also made designs for Hackefors Porslin, Höganäs Keramik and Strömbergshyttan.
Rörstrand is Sweden's oldest ceramic manufacturer, established in 1726 in Stockholm. The factory later moved to Lidköping, and since 2004 the manufacturing is made in Indonesia. In the beginning Rörstrand was producing its own cheaper version of English stoneware. In the 1820's mass production of transfer-printed earthenware took off. Adapting motifs inspired by elaborate hand-painted blue-and-white wares imported from China, called "willow pattern", Rörstrand produced its own versions with Purple Lace being a popular tableware set with production until the 1930's. By 1900, the factory had an excellent reputation worldwide and participated successfully in various art and industrial exhibitions. Presented at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 was Swedish Grace, the national tableware designed by Louise Adelborg, still in production. Some other of Rörstrand's long-running dinnerware sets are Green Anna, Ostindia, and Mon Amie.
