Prince Sigvard Bernadotte (1907–2002) was the second son of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden. Bernadotte became a major figure in the field of Scandinavian industrial design. Joining the current wave of Swedish functionalism (1930's) emerging in the wake of World War I, Bernadette was inspired by the principle to design solely on purpose and function. Designing dinnerware for Danish silversmith Georg Jensen in the 1930's, he introduced clean, geometrical forms to the Danish silver tradition. In 1950 Bernadotte partnered with architect Acton Bjørn, designing products ranging from calculators to refrigerators. In 1964, an offshoot of the firm, Bernadotte Design, was one of the major design consulting firms in Northern Europe.
