Gustavsberg Pyro Pitcher

Pitcher designed by Wilhelm Kåge for Swedish stoneware company Gustavsberg in the 1920's as part of the Pyro series. A glossy cream glaze with brown hand painted details. 6.75" tall. Hand wash only.

Condition: Vintage, with small chipping at spout, and staining in the glaze.

Gustavsberg is a Swedish porcelain company outside Stockholm, manufacturing porcelain since 1825. The firm had success in the 1800's making china in the style of English creamware. Wilhelm Kåge who studied under Henri Matisse, became artistic director in the early 1900's and took the company in a new direction. In 1949 Kåge was succeeded by Stig Lindberg, who was responsible for the experimental studio set up in 1942 to develop new designs for production. Known for his eccentric forms, whimsical studio ceramics and graceful tableware lines, Lindberg was also a glass designer, textile designer, industrial designer, painter, and illustrator.
