Dansk (Danish for "Danish") is an American design company founded by Ted Nierenberg (1923-2009) on Long Island in 1954. The products were created by Danish sculptor and silversmith Jens Quistgaard. Nierenberg discovered Quistgaard's designs in a flatware collection at a Copenhagen museum and convinced him to start a collaboration. Quistgaard designed more than 4,000 products for Dansk into the 1980s, in materials like teak, brass, enameled steel and stoneware. His work is represented in the collections of MoMA, the Met and the Louvre. Some of the best-known pieces are the Fjord flatware, the first cutlery set to combine stainless steel with teak handles, and the Kobenstyle cookware collection, with brightly colored enameled steel pots designed to go from kitchen to table, with handles that double as trivets.
